Marcus Alliung Kinthari

Marcus has called Victoria home since 2015 and joined the TY team in 2021. Each weekend, you’ll find him playing footy on Saturdays and working on Sundays, sticking to a solid eight-hour day. While he doesn’t eat out much, Marcus enjoys cooking at home once a week—his go-to dish? A hearty risotto made with beef broth. He’s adjusted well to the Victorian climate, saying the cold isn’t a problem at all. In fact, mornings are easy for Marcus, and while work can sometimes be challenging, he’s grateful to have been offered a job.

His favourite part of the role? Moving fish from tanks to ponds. He finds the work educational and rewarding, especially learning hands-on skills like filleting fish. Marcus is surrounded by family and friends, including his sister and PJ, so he doesn’t get homesick; though he does miss his family from time to time. Back home, people often ask him about work and job opportunities.

He believes those who avoid drinking and smoking could do really well in similar roles. As for returning to Wadeye, Marcus says he might consider it if things settle down—but he’s not too sure that will happen. For now, he’s focused on learning, working, and making the most of life in Victoria.
